G is for GENETICS! It should go without saying that puppies will inherit traits from both parents. So this brings us right back to seeing Mum and, if possible, the Dad.

WHY? Nervousness and aggression in dogs can be inherited. While Mum’s temperament is generally obvious, less consideration is often given to the sire. Dad will have a contribution to make into the genetic make-up of his off spring.

If either show fear, anxiety or aggression then as a prospective dog owner you should ask yourself if you want to take on a puppy that may also have these traits.

In addition, a reputable breeder will only bred from parents that have been tested for serious health conditions that are known to be passed GENETICALLY to their offspring.

A good breeder will be able to provide information on the behaviour and health of both parents.
